Qurani is a comprehensive Islamic app that combines essential features Muslims require to meet their religious obligations into one solution. The app provides accurate prayer times, prayer time notifications, customizable Quran recitation, memorization cards and progress tracking for hifdh, Qibla finder, offline support, and more! The primary goal of this mobile application is to make daily religious practices easier and more accessible for Muslims worldwide.

Challenges

The biggest challenge was developing an app that provides a smooth user experience while incorporating extensive features such as Quranic scripts, multiple translations, reciter audios, player settings, and customizable auto-scrolling. Very few React Native applications provide such extensive features in one platform. 

A related difficulty was ensuring heavy font rendering. Ensuring that users could zoom in with gestures and scroll to any point of the Quran instantly with one click without compromising the app experience was a challenge.

Solutions

Right from the beginning, the team prioritized user experience. The goal was to ensure a simple, modern design that delivers the required functionalities while maintaining ease of use and interactive experience. To optimize app performance, we utilized techniques like lazy loading, dynamic rendering, background preloading, a custom auto-scrolling algorithm, and a custom cache strategy. 

The team leveraged React Native’s native modules and the react-native-gesture-handler to address performance-intensive tasks like zooming and scrolling and ensure a smooth, seamless experience.

Customizable Quran Recitation

Qurani makes it convenient for users to read the Holy Quran online or offline. Users have the option to choose from a variety of beautiful Quranic scripts to personalize their reciter. They can also enable Quran translation in various languages, adjust player speed, increase or decrease font size, and use auto-scrolling and zoom to navigate the online Quran easily. The bookmarking and search functions (including the voice search) provide quick navigation between and within surahs, juz, and hizb. 

Khatmah, Hifdh and Progress Tracking

Muslims benefit from hifdh (memorization) cards to learn the Quran by heart. Users can create flashcards of the ayahs and surahs they want to remember and review the cards at spaced intervals until memorization. The app also suggests future memorization card predictions based on a user’s current progress. Users may also plan khatmah (one complete recitation of the Holy Quran) by setting the number of days and tracking progress visually through graphs.

Duas, Masjid Locator, Calendar Converter, and More!

Along with the main features, Qurani has a store of features. Users benefit from an extensive Dua Library with authentic duas with translation, a Masjed Locator to find nearby mosques, a Calendar Converter to convert Gregorian dates to Islamic Hijri dates and vice versa, and a beautiful online Quran Playback Reciter to listen and read the Quran online. Features like Night Mode and In-app Video Tutorials further increase the flexibility and usability of the app.
