Overview

A hardcore soccer (English football) fan, our client asked us to create an immersive fantasy football experience that like-minded football fans can enjoy on mobile. Having partnered with the client, we designed and developed a unique soccer app that provides users with a platform to put their football expertise to work. 

Golwiz is a premier football predictor that allows users to follow their favorite UEFA Champions League and English Premier League teams, create contests, predict scores to win points, compete with friends, find live and upcoming matches, chat with fantasy football enthusiasts in contest-specific chat rooms, keep up to date with live scores, know updated team and player statistics, read football news, listen to football podcasts, get game reminders, and more!

Challenges

Third-Party Data Dependency – The app relied heavily on third-party data, occasionally failing to account for new or edge cases.

Platform Inconsistencies – Initially, the app was designed and developed separately for Android and iOS.

Real-Time Match Dependency – Some app features require live match updates. Many matches occurred during the night, complicating real-time testing and updates.

Solutions

Implemented Robust Fallback Mechanism – We focused on integrating data accurately to reduce inconsistencies. A scalable structure took care of edge cases in real-time as they arise.

One App in React – We revamped the app in React Native to create the same app for Android and iOS.

Automated Real-time Monitoring – Initially, our team worked outside office hours to update match data of matches occurring at night. Later, we introduced automated tools to reduce manual interventions.

Key Features

  • Contests: We designed an intuitive contest feature that allows users to create or join public or private contests to predict match scores and win points via a secure submission system.
  • Results: We delivered a reliable, automated scoring system that displays user rankings and scores based on match outcomes.
  • Matches: Our Dynamic Matches Feature lets users find live and upcoming matches in their chosen league. Users can view real-time match updates, including lineup, form, and team and player stats.
  • Table: We developed an automated team scoring system to display a real-time points table. Users can view the total points, wins, losses, and draws of each team in the league.
  • AI: We integrated an AI feature that provides win predictability based on an in-depth analysis of historical match, team, and player data. Users can consult the AI feature to make informed predictions and win points!
  • Line-up: We presented the team line-up in a clean and aesthetically pleasing design so users can predict match strategy based on the team’s arrangement.
  • Entertainment: What is a fantasy football predictor without entertainment? We integrated football news and podcasts to benefit from expert commentary and discussions.
  • Chat: Our chat feature makes the app even more entertaining. Users can talk to friends and fellow football enthusiasts in contest-specific chat groups to discuss the latest news, updates, and match strategies for an immersive experience.
